To
change the layout of an existing publishing page, open the page in your
browser and switch to the Page ribbon. There, click on the Edit button
to switch the page into editing mode. This enables you to click on the
Page Layout button in the ribbon.
Note
In some publishing sites,
the ribbon is hidden by default. To get to the ribbon, open the Site
Actions menu and select Show Ribbon from that menu to expose the Page
ribbon.
The Page Layout button then shows the various available page layouts for you to choose from (see Figure 1).
After you click on the layout
that you want, you can see it change the page. It is important to note
that switching layouts may remove web parts from the page because the web
parts are tied to a specific web part zone, and if the new layout does
not have the same web part zone, the web parts that belonged in that
zone will be removed.
If you are happy with the
new layout, click the Save & Close button in the Page ribbon. (The
page might still need to be published.) If you want to revert to the layout that you
had before, open the menu under the Check In button and click Discard
Check Out. This retracts all the modifications you’ve made to the page
since the last time you checked it out, including the page layout
change.
